Cervical Cancer Awareness Week: The Importance of Regular Screenings

This Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, we want to highlight the vital importance of regular cervical screening, a simple test that can save lives.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, yet every year, thousands of women in the UK are diagnosed. Early detection through routine cervical screening (also known as a smear test) is the most effective way to identify abnormal cells before they potentially develop into cancer.

Despite its effectiveness, many people delay or avoid screening due to fear, embarrassment, or lack of awareness. As a firm specialising in clinical negligence, we have unfortunately seen the devastating consequences that can arise from delayed diagnosis or missed opportunities for early intervention. While rare, there are instances where symptoms are overlooked or test results are not acted upon, leading to tragic outcomes that might have been avoided.

Regular screenings are offered on the NHS to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64. These tests are quick, generally painless, and play a crucial role in protecting long-term health. We urge everyone who is eligible to attend their appointments and encourage loved ones to do the same.

At Lamb Brooks, we are committed to promoting awareness and supporting those affected by clinical negligence. If you or a loved one has concerns about delayed diagnosis or treatment relating to cervical cancer, our dedicated clinical negligence team is here to help.
